RYA Day Skipper Practical Course
The RYA Day Skipper Practical Course is conducted onboard and covers areas of navigation, seamanship and boat handling. If you are planning to spend more time on the water, taking this course after completing the RYA Day Skipper shore based course is beneficial as you require some sailing experience and knowledge. All RYA sailing courses are run by BOSS (British Offshore Sailing School) from their HQ in Hamble Point Marina, Southampton and are run in association with Helm Yacht Charters.
Helm Yacht Charters RYA Day Skipper Practical Course
Spread over 5 days and taking you up to 100 miles into the waters, the course is designed to instruct you how to confidently take command of a yacht in known waters and what your responsibilities are as a skipper. The course includes basic engine checks, meteorology, passage planning, preparation of the yacht for sea, watch keeping, sail trim and how to handle any emergency situations.
Our calm and knowledgeable instructors will coach you on different techniques to enhance your skills. There is also 4 hours of night sailing included that will help you to experience sailing at night and be able to identify different lights and landmarks at night.
The 5 Days / Nights RYA Day Skipper Practical Course is run every week from April through to November. You can take the course as a 5 day course or over 3 weekends. You can also choose a 2 and 3 day weekend option to make up for the 5 days. The 5 day course will cost you £550, while the 2 Day RYA Day Skipper Weekend and 3 Day RYA Day Skipper Weekend will cost you £225 and £335 respectively. By completing the course successfully, you will be issued the RYA Day Skipper certificate that shows that you can safely skipper a yacht during the day.
