RYA Coastal Skipper Course
The RYA Coastal Skipper Course is the next step after the RYA Day Skipper Practical course and builds on the skills learnt during that course. It teaches more advanced skippering techniques and skills that are essential for unknown passages. The RYA Coastal Skipper Course is run by the British Offshore Sailing School (BOSS) from the Hamble Point Marina, situated right at the mouth of the River Hamble, in association with Helm Yacht Charters
Helm Yacht Charters RYA Coastal Skipper Course
Skippering a yacht on offshore passages requires strong navigation and leadership skills. During the RYA Coastal Skipper Course, our instructors will help you with navigation offshore as well as in limited visibility, passage planning, watch keeping and ways to handle heavy weather. Students will be put in commanding positions as they plan and execute passages during the course. To be a good coastal skipper, you need to be a good handler and get adequate practice mooring the yacht.
The RYA Coastal Skipper Course certificate will certify that you have advanced sailing ability and more experience than what a day skipper has. If you are looking to take the RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper Examination, this course will be beneficial for you.
The RYA Coastal Skipper Course (Tidal) runs Sunday – Friday from Mid-February to Mid-November and costs £560 per person. Due to the nature of the training and the length of the passages required, the course is not normally run over 3 weekends. If required, Helm Yacht Charters can arrange this at an extra cost. For obtaining the RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Exam Certificate of Competence, you will need to take the Coastal Skipper Exam Preparation Course and Exam for £750.
